Jungle Themed Baby Shower

Another jungle baby shower cake!  This is the first cake I've made since having my baby, so I was very nervous about being a little rusty.  Fortunately, the cake gods were watching down on me and this cake was a breeze.  NOTHING went wrong.  Bottom tier is chocolate and the top tier is vanilla and according to my husband, both cakes are the best I've ever made (he gets to enjoy all the scrap pieces).  And I've now realized that I really need to get back into this, even if it's just making a cake at home.  I think maybe I'll start making some fake cakes, just so I can keep up the pratice.

Disney Princess Cake

I made this a while ago and just never got around to blogging about it because I had a baby and then have just been living very crazy and tiring life of a SAHM of 2u2.  But finally here is the Disney Pricness Birthday cake.  Made this cake for our friends Karen & Dave's little girl's 2nd birthday.  Karen sent me some pictures for inspiration and this is what I came up with.  Before you even ask, yes, the brick or stone, whatever you want to call it, is all done by hand one at a time.  I know there forms and tools to make brick work very, very easy, but this is something that I tried out for a castle cake and really loved the way it looked, so I decided to do it again for the princess castle.  It takes way too long to do, but again, I just love the way it looks!

Another Harley Birthday Cake!

I love making repeat cakes!  Why?  Because I've already made it so I know what mistakes to avoid and how to time out my plan properly, which is incredibly important when you have a toddler to chase around while working on a cake.  This cake was for my new sister-in-law's dad.  His birthday was the day of my brother & her wedding, so they asked me to make a special birthday cake for him to have the night of the rehearsal dinner.

Bridal Shower Wine Cake

This is the second wine cake I've made!  This time instead of making the cake look like a barrel, I made it look like a basket via basket weaving with icing.  I tried making an edible wine glass and wine bottle, but it was just not working out so well, so I went with the next best thing - a mini bottle of wine and a small wine glass.  I love the way it turned out.

Tangled!

I have never seen the movie Tangled but apparently there is a pretty popular boat scene in the movie.  Thankfully there is the internet so I could see what this boat scene was all about.  I have to confess that I was going to make the boat and the people all out of gumpaste, but I failed on the people making part.  That is something that I am going to have to keep working on.  Fortunetly Disney sells lots of toys that go along with the Tangled movie and I was easily able to find exactly what I needed for this boat scene and as a bonus, the birthday girl gets to keep the figurines on top.  I also thought of covering the cake in fondant but because it is a really simple design, I wanted to get some texture in there, so I iced the cake in buttercream and did a little wave action, to make it look like water.  If you're wondering what the little yellow things are in the water, they are lanterns, or candles, however you want to look at it.  In the scene they are surrounded by these while on the boat.  I didn't want to have a ton of them hanging because I thought it would look too messy with wires everywhere, so placing them within the waves of the water seemed like the perfect idea.  So Happy Birthday Lindsay!  I hope you enjoy your cake.

Just for fun - a basket of roses

I recently went to a playgroup get together and contributed a cake to the event. I really wanted to make a lemon cake with raspberry filling and figured I could work on my piping skills at the same time. I originally was going to cover the top in roses and then do a scroll work on the side, but I didn't like the way it was turning out so I decided to try out a basket since I've never done one before. I think it came out cute but the best part is that this was pretty tastey.

Very Hungary Caterpillar Cake

The is the last cake of the January baby boy birthday cakes from playgroup.  The theme of the party is based off of the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", and so is the cake.  Happy Birthday Timmy!

Happy Birthday Ryan!

My little guy turned 1 on December 29th.  It's amazing how quickly a year can fly by.  Seems like yesterday I was holding this brand new, tiny baby and then the next thing I know I'm preparing for his birthday party and making his birthday cake!  We went with a Winter ONE-derland themed party.  I absolutely loved his cake.

Happy Birthday!

I'm cheating by adding this.  This was my final project for my wedding cake class...and it's a styrofoam cake.  I still love it.
